Whittlesea U3A offers some online courses to interested parties who meet our terms and conditions for membership.

The current offerings are listed below.

Seed to Plate and Beyond: Community Garden on Zoom

Learn how to reduce garden waste, compost, build a worm farm, plant, harvest and so much more.

Share your knowledge and expertise with other participants.

Get involved with your own garden and a local gardening community via this Zoom course from U3A Whittlesea. Learn how to grow and enjoy organically grown fruits, vegetables, and edible flowers, using sustainable practices. Enjoy ‘The Seed to Plate and Beyond’ experience by turning your produce into nourishing and tasty meals.  U3A Whittlesea offers online courses for seniors around Victoria and face-to-face courses, with social distancing, in the Whittlesea area.

Classes will include team discussions, show and tell time, and special guest speakers. Videos and demos of real-time community garden practices will be shown by your course leader, Yolanda of U3A Whittlesea.

Participants will be encouraged to partake in reducing garden waste, composting, building a worm farm, planting, harvesting and so much more.

Ultimately, learn how to bring fresh organic produce to the plate, which can then be served as traditional home cooked meals. Sessions should inspire individual and group activity. Strengthening bonds amongst U3A members as well as the wider community. In a small way this will help to connect participants to the natural world, which is so important for one’s health and wellbeing.

Tutor Information – Yolanda Avery

Yolanda is currently the Vice President at Links Community Garden in Lalor and a member of Whittlesea U3A Inc. She is a keen floral artist and gardener who creates liveable gardens and outdoor spaces full of food resources. She is involved with many projects concerning community welfare and has a passion for communities utilising outdoor spaces in the local area.

Yolanda has serviced many functions with flower arrangements and has exhibited floral artworks at the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show in 2009, 2012, and 2013, as well as presenting at various Council Art/Craft Festivals.
