Reflections – Looking Forward Looking Back.

Reflections

Dear Artists,

To mark the 10th anniversary of the 2009 Bushfires, the City of Whittlesea is hosting an art exhibition entitled, Reflections – Looking Forward Looking Back.

The exhibition will be held in the Great Hall at the Civic Centre, South Morang from

February 1 – 28 and will be open weekdays from 10am-4pm.

The exhibition includes a selection of artworks from Councils Cultural Collection, alongside poetry by local writers, video and art created in community recovery projects locally over the past decade.

Please find a poster and flyer attached. Please forward these to your friends and family and come along yourself.

There is no opening event as such, but we are hosting a community event, entitled Growth on Tuesday 12 February from 7-8pm in the Great Hall. You are invited to attend this event – refreshments will be provided. This is a free event and everyone is welcome so feel free to bring friends or family too. Please let us know if you will be attending this event as we would love to say hello.

An exciting feature of Reflections – Looking Forward, Looking Back is a tall tree sculpture that will be created in the gallery so from 1-11 February you can see artists at work, weaving the Tree of Love from natural materials. You will also be able to write messages on pieces of fabric and weave these into the tree trunk.

Artists at Work – watch artists at work as they weave a tree then join in if you can at the Great Hall at the Civic Centre, South Morang on February 1-11 weekdays from 10-4pm

  • Handmade paper leaves embedded with the seeds of yellow flowering plants, have been made in the community during January. These paper leaves are available in local libraries and community centres until Feb 8th and in the Great Hall throughout February for people to write personal reflections on. Leaves can be taken home to plant or be left in the basket provided to be added to the tree sculpture as part of GROWTH, a community event to acknowledge the community’s journey of recovery over the past 10 years.

There are several community events planned around the township of Whittlesea, please see flyers for details.
