Update for 2nd September Morning Tea

On a bright, sunny Spring morning, around 70 people attended the September monthly morning meeting. The venue is located at the Meadow Glen International Athletics Stadium until November. Hopefully, we will be back at Epping memorial Hall in the New Year.

The new committee had been appointed at the AGM which has been compressed to eight members rather than the twelve that we had previously.

President – Glen Wall

Vice President – Kathy Lizio

Secretary – Elaine Bateman

Treasurer – Peter Rodaughan.

General Committee

Kevin Whelan

Afroditi Toso

Michael Murray.

Glen gave credit to Val Marlow and Elaine Bateman for the success of the “Gala Open Day and Makers Market” on the 31st August.

The speaker for this day was Seb La Spina. Seb represents SES on the City of Whittlesea Municipal Emergency Management Committee. A question was asked to the audience;- Do you know where your torch is? Or candles and matches? In a blackout, it is very difficult to move around the house. Do you know what to do in time of a crisis? Who to call, etc?

Disasters, blackouts, are all part of the SES volunteer work.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF SES?

Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) works to ensure the safety of Victorian communities by responding to emergencies and disasters across the state. We are committed to developing and strengthening community partnerships to help keep all Victorians safe during emergencies.

REMBER TO DIAL 000 IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY.

THE CEDRR SURVEY?  CEDRR (Community Engagement for Disaster Risk Reduction)

https://communityriskreduction.org.au/)

What were the findings for this survey?

The SES is very interested in seeing how senior members of the community are preparing for natural hazards and risks in their community and this could contribute to the efforts in the U3A to support senior members of the community in having conversations about preparedness. It is an online platform, and this could be conducted during one of the computer skills sessions, followed by a cup of tea and a group discussion.

We would like volunteers for this.
