Portable Document Formation

Portable Document Format (PDF) files are used to depict documents in a way that is not dependent on the originating software, application, or operating system, that is – it negates the need for the end user to have the same software installed on their computer as that installed on the computer of the document originator.

Document Originator

End User – has MS Office Software INSTALLED

  

Sends a document formatted using MS WORD to the End-User

 

End-User has no problems opening the document

Sends a document formatted using MS WORD to the End-User

    

End-User CANNOT open the MS WORD document

Document Originator   

Saves the MS WORD document as a PDF before sending the document to the End – User.

End User – MS Office Software NOT Installed but can open the document because the document has been sent in PDF format.

End User – Has no problem opening the document.

    

 

End User can open and read all documents    

 

A PDF file captures all the attributes of the original document, that is – text formats, graphics, etc. as a fixed flat document. For all intents and purposes, without going into all the technical details, it can be envisaged as being the same as taking a screen print of the original document
